Self Portrait in Pencil

Commissioned work in almost every case is a situation in which communication between the artist and the purchaser must take place, but there is no better way to produce a Family Heirloom. Portraits, in particular, are ideally commissioned where access to the subject is possible. However, I have done portraits of deceased individuals where the only reference were pictures taken during their lifetimes, and the memories of their families.

Portraits of animals are also something you might want to consider. The same restraints as mentioned above also apply, but in many cases a good photograph sent over the internet or through the mail will produce a good result. Perhaps a look at "Andy" in the gallery pages will give an indication of what is possible.

Drawings or paintings of structures are also popular. Perhaps a home which you consider your castle, or a castle that you consider home, is something that you would want to have rendered.

Price is always a consideration, of course. In general, the price for a pencil drawn portrait of one person; drawn on 15"X20" 140# paper, and taken from a good photograph, starts at $150. More than one subject, complicated backgrounds, working in a medium other than pencil, will generally increase the cost.

If you are considering a commissioned work, please don't hesitate to either call or e-mail me to discuss the details of the work, and get a more detailed quote. It is also important if you are having a work done for a special occasion, you start the commission at least 6 weeks in advance of the event, and in the case of painted works much longer.
